Terms of Service
Last reviewed 15 September 2026
The agreement for using VoxSign. Two sections matter more than the rest: VoxSign is an assistive aid and not an interpreter, and the avatar will never perform a sign we are guessing at. Both are near the top for that reason.
The agreement
These terms are between you and VoxSign Accessibility, operating from Room MIIC, Level 5, Block B, CIT, Makerere University, Kampala, Uganda. By creating an account or using the service you accept them. If you do not accept them, do not use the service.
They are governed by the laws of Uganda. They are written in plain language on purpose; that does not make them less binding, it makes them readable.
Your account
- You need a working email address, and you must verify it with the code we send before you can sign in. One person, one account, whichever way you sign in.
- Keep your password and your sign in codes to yourself. Anything done through your account is treated as done by you.
- Give us accurate details. An email address you do not control means you cannot recover the account and we cannot reach you.
- If you are using VoxSign on behalf of a school or an organisation, you are confirming you are allowed to agree to these terms for them.
- You can delete your account at any time by emailing us. See the privacy policy for what that deletes.
VoxSign is an assistive aid, not an interpreter
This is the most important clause on the page, so it is near the top rather than buried at the end.
VoxSign is an automated aid to communication. It is not a qualified sign language interpreter, it is not a certified translation, and it does not carry the professional judgement, the accountability or the accuracy of a human interpreter. Speech recognition mishears words. Automated sign matching misses meaning that a person would catch.
Do not rely on it where it matters
You must not use VoxSign as the sole means of communication in any situation where a misunderstanding has legal, medical, financial or safety consequences. That includes medical consultations and diagnoses, legal proceedings and legal advice, employment and disciplinary matters, emergencies, financial agreements, and formal examinations and assessments. In those settings, engage a qualified interpreter. Use VoxSign alongside one if it helps, never instead of one.
If you provide services to Deaf or hard of hearing people, this service does not discharge whatever legal duty of accessibility you are under. Please do not treat it as having done so.
Our guarantee: we never fabricate a sign
This is a promise about how the software is built, and it is the one we hold ourselves to hardest.
The avatar performs a sign only when the transcribed words match an entry in our reviewed Ugandan Sign Language vocabulary. There is no fallback, no approximation, no nearest match and no generated sign anywhere in the system. When there is no match, the avatar stays idle and the transcript still shows you the words that were said.
The consequence is that you will see gaps, and you should read a gap as a gap. It means the vocabulary does not cover those words yet. It does not mean nothing was said, and it will never mean you were shown a sign we were guessing at. A wrong sign is worse than no sign, because a wrong sign is believed and it teaches the wrong thing.
Additions to the vocabulary are reviewed with people who use Ugandan Sign Language. That is slower than generating signs automatically, and it is deliberate.
Service limits
The service enforces these limits. They exist because processing runs on a shared GPU that costs real money, and one user must not be able to take the queue from everyone else.
- An uploaded video may be at most 200 MB and at most 20 minutes long. Anything larger or longer is rejected at upload.
- You hold one learning session at a time. Uploading a new video replaces the previous one, and the previous video and its results are deleted. This is not recoverable, so download or note anything you need first.
- There is a cap on how many of your videos process at once, so a batch of uploads is queued rather than run in parallel.
- Processing takes a few minutes for a long recording. You will see the real stage and the real progress, not an invented estimate.
- Sessions are deleted automatically on the schedule in the privacy policy, around 24 hours after a successful session. VoxSign is not storage. Keep your own copy of anything you need to keep.
Plans and payment
VoxSign has a Free plan and a Premium plan. The plans page sets out exactly what each includes, and the service enforces those limits.
- The Free plan costs nothing. It includes 2 successful live translations in any 24 hours, up to 20 in total, sign search, and the first lesson chapter. When the 20 are used, live translation stays unavailable until you upgrade. A translation that fails on our side does not count.
- Premium adds unlimited live translation, every lesson chapter, and video translation. Video translation is a beta feature and may change. Features marked coming soon are not part of what you pay for until they launch.
- Premium costs, when paid from Uganda, 50,000 UGX for 30 days or 570,000 UGX for 365 days; when paid by card from anywhere else, 13.10 USD for 30 days or 149.34 USD for 365 days. These prices are fixed and do not change with exchange rates.
- Prices do not include Flutterwave's transaction fee for processing your payment, which you pay in addition to the price. The fee depends on how you pay. Checkout shows the price, the fee and the total before you are taken to pay, and Flutterwave shows the total again before you confirm.
- Premium does not renew automatically. Each payment buys 30 or 365 days, depending on the plan you chose, added after any Premium time you already have. If you do not pay again, your account returns to the Free plan at the end of the period. There is no subscription to cancel.
- Payments are processed by Flutterwave. Your card or mobile money details are entered with Flutterwave and are never received or stored by VoxSign.
- If you were charged but did not receive Premium, or were charged twice, contact us and we will put it right, either by applying the Premium time or by refunding the payment.
If prices or plan limits change, we will tell existing users before the change applies to them. A change never shortens Premium time you have already paid for.
Acceptable use
Do not upload audio or video that you do not have the right to upload. If other people are recorded in it, you need their agreement. That is your responsibility, not ours, and it is not a formality in a country where a recording of a meeting can carry real consequences for the people in it.
You must not use VoxSign to
- Upload content that is unlawful, that incites violence or hatred, or that sexualises children.
- Upload someone else's confidential or personal information without a lawful basis for doing so.
- Harass, defame or impersonate anybody.
- Attack, overload, probe or attempt to gain unauthorised access to the service or the systems it runs on.
- Automate access, scrape the service, resell it, or route another product's traffic through it.
- Misrepresent VoxSign output as a certified or human interpretation.
- Extract our sign assets, vocabulary or avatar for use outside this service.
If you find a security flaw, please tell us instead of exploiting it. The security page says how, and we will not come after you for reporting something in good faith.
We may suspend or close an account that breaks these rules. For anything that puts other users or the service at risk we will act first and explain afterwards.
Your content stays yours
You keep all rights in the audio and video you submit and in the transcripts produced from them. We claim no ownership of any of it.
You give us only the permission needed to run the service for you: to store your upload briefly, send its audio to the speech recognition service in short segments, produce the transcript, captions and cue timeline, and play them back to you. That permission covers nothing else. In particular, as stated in the privacy policy, we do not use your recordings to train or improve our speech model.
What belongs to us
The VoxSign name and logo, the interface, the avatar, the sign animations and the curated vocabulary remain ours. Using the service does not transfer any of that to you.
Availability and change
VoxSign is provided as it is. We do not promise it will be available without interruption, that transcription will be accurate, or that every word will have a sign. It depends on third party hosting and on a GPU service, and any of those can be unavailable.
We are actively developing this service, so features change, and occasionally one is removed. We will not remove something you depend on without notice where we can avoid it.
Liability
To the fullest extent Ugandan law allows, VoxSign is not liable for any loss arising from a misheard word, a missing sign, a mistimed caption, a translation you relied on, an interruption to the service, or the deletion of a session under the retention schedule described in the privacy policy.
Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited, and nothing here takes away a right the Data Protection and Privacy Act 2019 gives you.
Read together with section 3: the reason this clause is broad is the same reason that section exists. This is an automated aid, and where accuracy carries consequences the right answer is a qualified human interpreter.
Changes and contact
When these terms change we update the review date at the top, and for a material change we will tell account holders before it takes effect. Continuing to use the service after a change means you accept the updated terms.
Questions about anything on this page go to info@voxsign.co.ug. If a clause here is unclear, that is a fault in our writing and we would like to know about it.
